KB consultancy is unique: it provides career development for your writing career. I work with only a small number of writers at any one time, to give writers a one-to-one career development. This is a wide-ranging but focused consultancy, available for both experienced writers and those new to writing.
I keep my consultancy purposefully small, which means you work directly with me, there’s no middle-person, and you have the benefit of getting exactly who you asked for. Working only between the two of us, means you’ll receive the nurturing, personal attention.
Obviously, there are many successful authors and editors who can support you with your project, but with KB consultancy, you’ll receive more than just a published writer’s advice. In addition, I'm also a qualified and experienced literature teacher. Furthermore, unlike most mentors, I'm a qualified coach, which means I'm perfectly placed to help you develop your writing skills and ambitions.

COACHING
Real creative practice happens when you critically engage with your vision. Working with me, you’ll receive a skilfully guided space where you can clarify your what success would feel like to you, As a writer, I’ve benefited from writing groups, writing tutorials, know-how books, conferences and mentoring – all have contributed to my personal development. But coaching provides a space where it is about you – and only you. Perhaps you’ve lost hope of being published; suffering writing block or you’ve had a writing contract in the past, but have hit an uncontracted space and are unsure where to direct your career next; whatever your individual situation, focused support will benefit you.
MENTORING
As a published author working currently within the industry, and as a creative writing teacher, I’m well-placed to come alongside you and share experience, advice and insights on your work-in-progress. You’ll be working with someone further down the publishing road than you, providing support and guidance. You’ll be able to develop your WIP in a dynamic, professional space.
TEACHING
I offer a range of short courses on different aspects of creative writing. I am a qualified and experienced teacher of creative writing and teach both online and in-person writing events -- as well as teaching individuals and in the classroom. Please contact me for more details.
THE PATHWAY:
A free introductory meeting, either by email, phone call or Zoom – you can choose. This can help you understand what you want to prioritise, to check we will be a good match, or to talk through any questions you have. You are free not to proceed after this point, but if you want to we will identify your goals, next steps.

MENTORING
Full Scrutiny Report:
Do you need a valued second opinion on your MS? The Full Scrutiny Report is perfect if you want to be clearer on how to develop your treasured novel-in-progress. We'll agree together on what you want me to focus on, but typically I comment on tension; structure; clarity of ideas and character development. It has been particularly useful for writers whose work is receiving positive feedback from agents, but have yet to secure representation. After we agree the scope of the read, you'll then receive a full MS read-through; followed by a detailed five page overview report. Crucially, this is followed by a 50 minute phone or online face-to-face meeting, to discuss your queries or to have a mini-brainstorm meeting. You'll then feel clearer how to strengthen, develop and finesse your story.

Submission Package Scrutiny Report
Do you need a valued second opinion on your your agent submission package? If so, this is perfect if you want to be clearer on how to perfect your approach to agents. It has been particularly useful for writers who have made submissions to agents, but have yet to secure representation. I'll read your first 3 chapters; agent contact letter and synopsis, before providing you with a two page report with feedback, followed by a 40 minute phone call or online face-to-face meeting, to discuss your queries. You'll feel clearer how to strengthen and invigorate your approach to agents.

THE COACHING
Not sure what to write? Have writer’s block? Finding it difficult to self-motivate or have rejection fatigue? You’ve been told your writing is good but they ‘wouldn’t know where to place you in the market’? Coaching might be suitable for you.
Coaching differs from mentoring (which is top-down sharing of experience) as it is guided by you. By giving you a reflective space, working with an experienced coach can help you identify what you want to achieve. It can take anywhere between one - six sessions to achieve your goals. Contact me for a 'chemistry meeting' where we can discuss what coaching for you would entail. I can provide you an overview of the coaching process and signpost you to further information; the chemistry meeting is 50 minutes and is free.
Typical coaching prices:
Three sessions of 50 minutes at £180; further sessions at £55 per 50 minutes after.
